Thummala Nageshwar Rao Biography

Thummala Nageshwar Rao is an Indian politician and minister from Telangana. He belongs to Telangana Rashtra Samithi and is fully active in politics right now. He is a member of Telangana Legislative Assembly representing Palair constituency. In 2016 Rao contested in Palair by-election and won with a majority of 45,676 votes. He serves as Roads and Buildings Minister of Government of Telangana. Earlier he was a member of Telugu Desam Party, and has served as an MLA and Minister in Andhra Pradesh state assembly. He formerly served as a minister for Heavy Water Irrigation Projects and Excise under Chandra Babu Naidu. He has been elected thrice to Assembly from Sathupalli Constituency.

Thummala Nageshwar Rao was born on 5 November 1953 in Gollagudem village of Dammapeta Mandal in Khammam District. He is married and has three children. He completed his graduation in commerce before joining politics, and rose to the position of a prominent leader in regional politics. Previously a member of Telugu Desam Party, he later switched to Telangana Rashtra Samithi, associated with Telangana movement demanding separate statehood. When the new state was formed, he joined state assembly in a by-election in 2016.

Thummala Nageshwar Rao got active in politics in the early 1980s, when he joined Telugu Desam Party in 1982. He contested 1983 state assembly elections, but lost it. Later he got elected to Andhra Pradesh state assembly thrice, and also got cabinet position in Chandra Babu Naidu ministry. Though he won state assembly elections in 2009 representing Khammam, he lost the same seat in 2014 elections. Congress candidate won the elections. Tummala Nageswara Rao, a four-time MLA served as Cabinet Minister thrice in the successive TDP governments in the past, before he became a cabinet minister in Telangana.
