Therambil Ramakrishnan Biography

Therambil Ramakrishnan is a prominent politician and former MLA from Kerala associated with regional politics. He is affiliated to Indian National Congress. He is also a lawyer by profession. A senior Congress leader from Thrissur district, he has been elected to Kerala state legislative assembly in 1982, 1991, 1996, 2001, 2006 and 2011. Thus he joined state assembly 6 times and completed all his terms as well. 6-term MLA of Kerala, he has also served as the speaker of Kerala legislative assembly twice, during 1995–96, 2004–2006. He also serves as a member of KPCC Executive.

Therambil Ramakrishnan hails from Thrissur, Kerala. Kuttoor is his native village. He was born as the son of Krishna Menon. He is married to is P. Chandramathi Ramakrishnan. He got active in state politics in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and got elected to state assembly for the first time in 1982. He was re-elected to assembly in 1991, 1996, 2001, 2006 and 2011 elections too.

His 20-month stint as the Speaker of the 11th Kerala Legislative Assembly had been an extremely fulfilling one to him personally. It was his second stint as speaker. The period witnessed several historic events, such as visit of President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam to the House to address the legislators and the installation of statues of Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and Jawaharlal Nehru in the Assembly Complex. He initiated the work on a `legislature museum’ and also gave some contributions to State Assembly, which has more than 90,000 books.

Most recently there were rumours that he was switching his party and participating in upcoming Lok Sabha elections as a BJP candidate at Thrissur constituency. However the senior politician of Congress denied the news reports. Threrambil served as MLA for 30 years and as Speaker for two terms. He currently resides in Ayyanthole, Thrissur where he is fully active in his political career.
