Tarla Dalal Biography 
Tarla Dalal was a celebrity chef who writes books on food recipes apart from hosting cookery shows on television. Published her first culinary book - The Pleasures of Vegetarian Cooking in 1974, she has contributed over 100 books over the years that sold more than 3 million copies. She was specialized in Indian cuisine, particularly Gujarati cuisine, though she writes books on healthy cooking as well. Indian government honoured her with Padma Shri in 2007, for her outstanding contributions to this field. She is also a recipient of ‘Women of the Year Award’ by Indian Merchants' Chamber in 2005. She is credited to India’s first most popular lady chef and author of books on cuisines.
She was born in Pune on 3 June 1936. Her childhood and teens were spent in her hometown itself. In 1960 she married Nalin Dalal and got settled in Mumbai. She started conducting cookery classes in 1966 six years after her marriage and published first cook book, The Pleasures of Vegetarian Cooking in 1974. Her first attempt was a big success and the book sold over 1,500,000 copies. Since then she published over 100 books and became a household name across India through the recipes she experimented. In fact she is the bestseller of cookery books in India and is credited to revolutionizing the Indian cooking industry. She has introduced and popularized many foreign cuisines among Indian masses.
Apart from her books, she has also published her recipes in magazines and many of her books have been translated to Indian and foreign languages. She has also hosted many television cookery shows like The Tarla Dalal Show and Cook It Up With Tarla Dalal, published a bi-monthly magazine, Cooking & More, and also ran the largest Indian food web site. She passed away in 2013 following a heart attack.
