Tanguturi Anjaiah Biography

Tanguturi Anjaiah was a prominent political figure from the state of Andhra Pradesh, who served as the 7th Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, from October 1980 to February 1982. He also served as Member of the Indian Parliament from Secunderabad during 31 December 1984 – 27 November 1986. He belonged to Indian National Congress. His wife T. Manemma is also a well-known politician associated with Congress party, who served as MLA twice from Andhra Pradesh. Tanguturi Anjaiah passed away in 1986. He is also known as T. Anjaiah alias Ramakrishna Reddy Talla. Born into a humble background, he rose to fame as a union leader and later went on to become the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.

 

Ramakrishna Reddy Talla hailed from Bhanoor village in Medak district, present day Telangana state. He was born on August 16, 1919. Born into a poor family, he did his early education from his village, and complete only matriculation studies due to financial struggles. After that he turned a daily wage worker at Hyderabad Allwyn Limited to financially support his family. He had to struggle a lot to make both the ends meet, and his struggles during younger days made him a strong person with aim to work for the poor.

 

Anjaiah rose from being a worker at Hyderabad Allwyn Limited to a popular trade union leader. It also marked his beginning as a popular leader, a social worker, and later he got into politics. From there on he had a magical run in the field of politics. He replaced Marri Chenna Reddy as Chief Minister of AP on 11 October 1980, and served in this position for more than one-and-a-half years. He passed away in 1986.
