T. Manemma Biography

T. Manemma was a well-known politician from Andhra pradesh associated with Congress party, who served as MP twice from Andhra Pradesh. She belonged to Indian National Congress. She was the wife of Tanguturi Anjaiah, a prominent political figure from the state of Andhra Pradesh, who served as the 7th Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, from October 1980 to February 1982. He also served as Member of the Indian Parliament from Secunderabad during 31 December 1984 – 27 November 1986. He was a sitting MP when he passed away. Manemma passed away most recently on 9 September 2018 aged 76 years.

Tangaturi Manemma was born on 29 April 1942 in Hyderabad to K. Shankar Reddy. She completed her education till matriculation. She got married to Tanguturi Anjaiah, a prominent political figure from the state of Andhra Pradesh in the 1980s, who served as CM too. They got married in year 1960, and Tanguturi Anjaiah turned active in politics after that. Manemma joined active politics after the death of her husband, when she won the bye-election conducted after the death of her husband in 1986. She got elected to Lok Sabha from Secunderabad constituency.  During her tenure as MP, she was a Consultative Committee for Health and Family Welfare.

Three years later in 1989, she retained her seat defeating Janata Dal's candidate by a huge margin and got elected to parliament for the second time. In 2008, she won the by-poll for the Musheerabad assembly seat. Though she remained a popular leader, she was not free of allegations. Her name was included in a dowry harassment case by the estranged wife of her grandson and the local court today refused her anticipatory bail. Ramyashree and Manemma’s grandson Vinaykumar married in 2007. According to the complaint, Ramyashree's in-laws were seeking additional dowry of Rs 10 lakh.
