Swami Prasad Maurya Biography 
Swami Prasad Maurya is a leading politician from Uttar Pradesh belonging to Bharatiya Janata Party and currently a cabinet minister in the ministry formed by Yogi Adityanath in 2017. He currently holds the portfolios of Labour and Service planning, Urban Employment and Poverty alleviation in Yogi’s ministry. He is currently serving as an MLA of Uttar Pradesh state assembly representing Padrauna constituency, and it is his 5th term as MLA in state politics. He has also served cabinet minister in BSP ministry multiple times, and has been a long-term member of the party before he quit the party in 2016.
He was born on January 2, 1954 in Pratapgarh, UP. He holds graduation and LLB degrees. 5-time MLA from the state, he represented Padrauna constituency. He has also been elected to state assembly on Bahujan Samaj Party ticket four times, and joined Bharatiya Janata Party in 2016, before he contested the state assembly elections last time in 2017 to join state cabinet. He resigned from BSP alleging "money for ticket" syndicate being run by the party. He launched his organizational unit called Loktantrik Bahujan Manch very soon. Born as a Hindu, he has converted to Buddhism now.
He got elected to state assembly for the first time in 1996, and has served many elite positions in the past two decades or so. He has served as Leader of the opposition in Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly twice, between Aug-2003 and Sep-2003 & Mar-2012 and Mar-2012. Prior to it, he was Leader of the House, Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. He has served as cabinet minister during his second as MLA in 1997, followed by 2002-2003, 2007-2009, 2007-2012 and also in present government since 2017.
