Sukanya Rahman Biography 
Sukanya Rahman is a classical dancer who practises Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi. She is the daughter of renowned Indian architect Padma Bhushan Habib Rahman and classical Indian dancer Indrani Rahman. Her brother Ram Rahman is a well-known curator. She is also a painter, visual artist and writer. She has exhibited her works in many galleries and Museums in India and abroad. Sukanya Rahman is born in Kolkata into a family of artists in the year 1946. Born as the daughter of Indian architect Habib Rahman and classical Indian dancer Indrani Rahman, she chose both these fields. She studied painting at the College of Art in New Delhi, and on a scholarship given by French Government, she got opportunity to study at Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts in Paris. She married theatre artist Frank Wicks, and they have two sons. Sukanya’s first love is painting, but she studied dance most of her time.
Sukanya learnt the basics of Bharatnatyam from her grandmother. She was staying with her grandmother in Bangalore, when her mother was busy with her modelling career. Later she continued learning under her mother’s Odissi and Kuchipudi gurus. She began learning under her mother, after she received basic training. Then she started to teach her in her own repertoire, handing down all her items. She started performing solos and toured Europe aside her mother. Her husband Frank Wick was managing many of their trips.
They did mother-daughter performances all over the U.S, and her husband doing the lights, the sound, the bookings and everything. Once she got opportunity to perform aside her mother and grandmother together. Her grandmother was 86 or 85 then.
