Simon Majumdar Biography

Simon Majumdar is a British-born chef and half-Indian. He gained recognition through numerous cookery books he authored, apart from travelogues. He is also a TV personality known through his cookery shows. He has appeared on many Food Network shows. Currently he based in big cities – London and Los Angeles. This celebrated chef, known across the world is a well-known food critic too. He has appeared in many cookery shows as a celebrity judge, for instance, Iron Chef America, Beat Bobby Flay, Cutthroat Kitchen, and The Next Iron Chef. Fed, White, and Blue; Eat My Globe; and Eating For Britain are his published cookery books.

 

Simon Majumdar was born and brought up in England. He grew up in Rotherham near Sheffield. He was born to Welsh mother and Indian father, and had three siblings. His father Pratip Majumdar belongs to Kolkata, and was an Orthopaedic consultant for Rotherham United F.C. His mother worked as a nurse, and they met while working together at a hospital and later got married. Simon Majumdar was initially a book pubisher, who started his career as a chef and food author only after he reached 40.

 

Unexpected death of his mother made Simon so much depressed that he couldn’t find interest in his publishing work. Later he decided to "go everywhere, eat everything" and set for a journey, which became a life changing journey. He wrote many books on travels as well as cooking. It was in year 2007 he decided with his new way of life, and he met his future wife while traveling in Brazil in 2010. In 2014 he became a US citizen. Since 2006 he writes food blogs aside his elder brother Robin. He currently writes food columns for different forms of publications.
