Shiv Pratap Shukla Biography

Shiv Pratap Shukla is an Indian politician from Uttar Pradesh belonging to Bharatiya Janata Party. He has been appointed as a member of Modi’s cabinet in September 2017. A prominent leader from the party in state politics, he also serves as the Vice President of Bharatiya Janata Party in Uttar Pradesh since 2012. A member of Rajya Sabha, he represents the state of Uttar Pradesh. He also serves as a member of Parliamentary Standing Committee for rural development.

Shiv Pratap Shukla was born in Rudrapur, Uttar Pradesh on April 1, 1952. His native village belongs to Gorakhpur district, and currently he is settled there with his wife, Janki Shukla. The couple has three daughters. Shiv Pratap Shukla holds an LLB degree. He started his political journey in the 1970s during his early college days. Served as the student leader of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, he joined mainstream politics in the early 1980s. As a student he actively participated in many agitations and also got jailed during the infamous Emergency Period. He was imprisoned for 19 months during this period.

In the late 1980s, he emerged as an eminent leader in state politics and got elected to state assembly for the first time in 1989. Since then he was consecutively elected four 4 times in state assembly before he moved to National level. He remained a prominent BJP leader of the state politics during this period, and also served as Minister of State. During his tenure as state minister, he initiated ‘Education for all’ scheme binding together ten districts together for the first time. He also brought many reforms for prisoners in jail, and strived for rural development. In 2012 he was appointed as the Vice President of BJP in state politics and in 2017, he joined Modi’s cabinet.
