Shihabuddin Poythumkadavu Biography

Shihabuddin Poythumkadavu, also pronounced as Shihabuddin Poithumkadavu is an Indian journalist and writer from Kerala, best known as a story teller whose works have been prescribed in state syllabus for schools and colleges. He is a fictional writer from Kannur best known for short stories, novels, and also essays and poetry. He is a well-known orator and television personality. As a writer and columnist, he has contributed to almost all leading journals of Kerala. His books have been bestsellers too. He is a recipient of Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Story (2007) for Thiranjedutha Kathakal, and also Padmarajan Award the same year for Taj Mahalile Ravukal. His work Manjukaalam earned V. T. Bhattathiripad Award in 1996.

 

Thoniyan Puthiyapurayil Shihabuddin, better known as Shihabuddin Poythumkadavu was born on 29 October 1963 in Kannur, Kerala. He graduated from Brennen College, Thalassery. His wife Najma is working as an English school teacher at a Government Higher Secondary School near Pattambi. Currently he is settled with his family in Kunnamkulam, Thrissur since year 2000. He owns a great experience in the field of journalism working with different forms of publications. He has also worked in gulf countries like Abu Dhabi where he has also been recognized as an author.

 

He is the author of Ee Stationil Ottakku - the first fantasy short story collection in Malayalam language. Kathunna Thalayana, Thala, Shihabuddinte Kathakal, Randu Eleppamar, Manjukaalam and Malabar Express are among his other popular short story collections. Shihabudheen Poithumkadavinte Novellakal, Eercha, Aalivaidyan and Nalla Ayalkkaran are his published novels. Some of his acclaimed stories have become the part of state syllabus of Kerala State Education Board, University of Calicut, Mahatma Gandhi University and Kerala University. In 2018 he received death threats from some extreme groups after he came forward with a support Facebook post for renowned Malayalam author M. T. Vasudevan Nair.
