Sharmistha Mukherjee Biography 
Sharmistha Mukherjee is a famous Kathak dancer, artist, choreographer and politician belonging to Indian National Congress. She is the daughter of famous politician and 13th President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, who served as Minister of Finance too. Sharmistha Mukherjee has remained as a jury member of National Film Awards before. She unsuccessfully contested the Delhi Assembly election in February 2015 from the Greater Kailash constituency, and her political career has not been great so far.
Sharmistha Mukherjee was born into a political family of West Bengal and brought up in Delhi, where her father Pranab Mukherjee was very active in National level politics. Her elder brother, Abhijit Mukherjee is also associated with politics, and has served as MP from Jangipur in West Bengal. Mukherjee began formal dance training at age 12, and got lessons from Pandit Durgalal, Vidushi Uma Sharma, Rajendra Gangani and many more gurus. As an accomplished Kathak dancer with lots of experience, she earned success in this field, and has performed in major festivals in India and several foreign countries.
Following her father’s steps, Sharmistha joined active politics in 2014, and has been fully active in field work as well. Till 2013, she asserted that she doesn't "have much interest in politics”, and always maintained a low profile. A leader of masses, she gained popularity among the common people within a short interval of time soon after she actively joined politics. However she couldn’t win a seat in 2015 state assembly elections of Delhi. She could finish only third behind Saurabh Bharadwaj of AAP and Rakesh Gullaiya of BJP. While at Rastrapati Bhawan, when her father served as India’s President, she did play the hostess very often.
