Santosh Lad Biography

Santosh Lad is an Indian politician from the state of Karnataka who formerly serves as a member of Karnataka legislative assembly. He belongs to Indian National Congress and he served as Minister of Karnataka State for Information and Infrastructure during his previous term since 2013. He represented Kalaghatagi in 2013 state assembly elections, and it was his second term representing the same constituency.  He was a sportsman during his college days, and was into family business before joining active politics.

 

Santosh Lad was born on 27 February 1975 in Sandur, Karnataka into a business family. He was born as the son of Shivaji Lad and Shailaja S. Lad in Bellary district. His family is into mining industry since 1950s. He lost his father at the age of 16. After his father’s death he took over family business. His childhood and younger days were spent in his hometown where he completed his schooling and graduation. He graduated in Commerce. During his college days, he was active in sports and has represented his team in college competitions and state level tournaments. He participated in U-21 Cricket state-level tournament KSCA representing Tumkur Zone. He is married to Keerthi Lad and has one son.

 

Got involved with family business since young, he diversified his business plans to other sectors as well. Along with it he got involved with politics as well. His political career began as a counselor from Sandur taluk. Initially he couldn’t make big gains in local politics and also lost his first Panchayat elections. But he succeeded slowly. He also successfully contested state assembly elections as a Janata Dal candidate and defeated his nearby Congress candidate to become the youngest MLA from Sandur. He was only 29 then.
