Sanjay Singh (politician) Biography

Sanjay Singh, also known as Sanjaya Sinh is an Indian politician and parliamentarian from the state of Uttar Pradesh. Currently he belongs to Indian National Congress, and has been previously associated with BJP & Janata Dal. A 2-time MLA and former minister of Uttar Pradesh in the 1980s, he became a member of Rajya Sabha in 1990 and Lok Sabha in 1998. In 2009 he got elected to Lok Sabha for his second term, and currently represents the state of Assam in the Rajya Sabha. His wife Ameeta Singh is a former badminton player, current politician and social worker. Sanjay also claims to be married to Ameeta Singh, the widow of Syed Modi.

Sanjay Singh was born on 25 September 1951 in UP as the son of Raja Rananjay Singh. He married noted politician Garima Singh and had three children. Singh also claims to be married to Syed Modi's widow, Ameeta. The mutual divorce between Singh and Garima was declared void by High Court and Supreme Court in 1995. Despite the rulings, he maintains that Ameeta is his legally wedded wife. An inheritance dispute over the royal place between the two wives was witnessed in 2014.

Sanjay Singh is also an agriculturalist, pilot and social worker, apart from his career as a politician. He holds the rank of Major (retired) in the Indian Territorial Army. He rose to prominence within Indian National Congress in the 1980s, when he had close link to Gandhi family, mainly through Amethi Lok Sabha seat and related events. He had also been associated with BJP & Janata Dal previously. He joined Janata Dal in 1988, and in the 1998 Lok Sabha elections he won the Amethi constituency seat on BJP ticket. He rejoined INC in 2003.
