Sandip Roy Biography

Sandip Roy is an Indian English author and journalist based in Kolkata. He worked as radio commentator while at US, and has won many awards for his career as a journalist. He is the Senior Editor at the popular news portal Firstpost.com and blogs for the Huffington Post. He worked as a software engineer in San Francisco before turning to full-time writing. His published collections include - Storywallah!, Contours of the Heart, Because I Have a Voice: Queer Politics in India, Out! Stories from the New Queer India, New California Writing 2011 and The Phobic and the Erotic: The Politics of Sexualities in Contemporary India. His book Don’t Let Him Know was published by Bloomsbury Publishing in 2015.

 

Sandip Roy hails from Kolkata, West Bengal. He lived in San Francisco for 20 years and after he returned to India, he turned a full-fledged writer in English. He worked as a software engineer in San Francisco for a while. He also worked as a journalist and editor while at US. He has been a long time commentator on National Public Radio's Morning Edition, the most listened-to radio programme in the US. He has a weekly radio postcard for public radio on KALW 91.7FM in the San Francisco Bay Area, and serves as an editor with New America Media.

 

He is an award winning journalist, who won recognitions at different points of time while at US. He also contributed many anthology works, and published one novel titled, Don't Let Him Know. The book was long listed for the DSC Prize for South Asian Literature in 2016. Roy identifies as a gay man and many of his works explore this theme. He is unmarried.
