S. Ramadoss Biography

S. Ramadoss is a famous politician and is the founder- president of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) party. He is also known for the association with Vanniyar Sangham. From a sectarian leader, Ramadoss has come a long way. His son, Anbumani Ramadoss has served as the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare during the period 2004-2009.

As he is a leader of a caste centric party, he is often accused of caste violence in Tamil Nadu against Dalits and their political party, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi. In 2013 April he was warned by CM J Jayalalitha for the April 25 caste flare-up at Marakkanam, near Puducherry and warned for action. She also said that a case had been filed against Ramadoss for violating rules while holding the annual 'Chithra Pournami' youth rally in Mamallapuram on April 25.

There are frequent clashes between Dalits and Vanniyars in the northern districts of Tamil Nadu and there were intense clashes between both groups during 1999 General elections. The leader of VCK, Thirumavalavan accused S. Ramadoss for this communal riot and violence. Blames were made from both ends. But during 2004-2009, they worked together as they both belonged to same alliance. The mutual confrontation started once again in 2009 soon after the split of the alliance.

In 2012, Ramadoss formed an all-community safeguard forum comprising 51 intermediate castes. He also declared that he will never form alliance with VCK and Thirumavalavan. No one took him seriously when he combined the most backward Vanniar community to form a new group in northern parts of Tamil Nadu. But today, S.Ramadoss is a politician in his own right. According to him, he fights for the social justice of low caste people through his party.
