Ruchi Sharma (dancer) Biography

Ruchi Sharma is an Indian dancer and a known exponent of Kathak. She trained in Lucknow, Jaipur and Banaras schools of Kathak, and is a wonderful choreographer who has created many dance dramas. She also holds two world records to her credit, related to dance art form - 5000 dancing rounds with the help of Tratak Yoga and also a world record of marathon in Kathak Dance Performance for 15 hours, recorded on 17th February 1996. She has been learning Kathak under different traditions from different gurus for the past three decades. She also teaches more than 250 students from all age groups in the western suburbs of Mumbai.

Ruchi Sharma’s name shines in the cultural horizon as a prominent and globally acclaimed kathak Dance maestro. Through her devotion, discipline, rigorous, and continuous effort, and spiritual living, she attained her stature, and is worth mentioning. She trained Kathak under Guru Pandit Anupam Rai for more than three decades. She has been honoured with the 'Dancing Queen of the Millennium' by the Artiste Guild. She is also a recipient of numerous honours and titles such as Kathak Shreshtha, Nritya Mani, Nartan Chakravarty, Sanskriti Shiromani, Nritya Surabhi, Konpal Sanman, Prayag Gaurav, Nritya Mayuri, Hind Gandharva Shree and many laurels overseas from different parts of the world.

One of the most experienced and gifted Kathak artists of present times, she has also brought in many reforms in performances as well as research and presentation. She popularized the practical researches like sketching of figures and symmetrical letters with the help of foot movements. She has also choreographed art works incorporating the principles of mathematics such as Sangam Taal of 8.75 beats & Chaandramohan Taal of 6.25 beats.
