Ramakrishna Ranga Rao Of Bobbili Biography

Ramakrishna Ranga Rao of Bobbili was an Indian politician and zamindar from south India. He served as the Chief Minister of Madras Presidency from 5 November 1932 to 4 April 1936 and 24 August 1936 to 1 April 1937, a decade before India became independent from British power. He was a member of Justice Party. He belongs to the royal family of Bobbili zamindari and succeeded his father Venkata Kumar Krishna to the throne of Bobbili. He ruled as zamindar from 1921 to 1948. After independence and unification of India, he assumed as the titular "Raja of Bobbili". He passed away in 1978.


Ramakrishna Ranga Rao was born on 20 February 1901 in Bobbili, Madras Presidency. Now his birth place is a part of Andhra Pradesh. He was the son of the Venkata Kumar Krishna Ranga Rao and the grandson of Raja Venkata Ranga Rao of the Bobbili zamindari. He had an elder sister. He was tutored at palace during his childhood, and he also played badminton and billiards. He married Lakshmi Subhadrayamma, a princess in 1921. He succeeded his father Venkata Kumar Krishna as ruler of his princely state in 1921 till princely states were abolished in India.


His entry to politics happened in 1925 when he was nominated as a member of the Council of State. He served as the 6th, 7th and 9th Chief Minister of the Madras Presidency during British Raj in India. He was a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Andhra Pradesh for Bobbili during 1967–1972. Prior to it, he was a Member of the Constituent Assembly of India during 1946–1951 and Member of the Council of State (Imperial Legislative Council of India) during 1925–1927.
