Pranava Prakash Biography

Pranava Prakash is an Indian artist and painter from Patna who works in neopop style. He works on socio-political issues and often depicts various persons in the nude. His nude pictures of Arundhati Roy, lying in between Mao and Osama bin Laden, and also the nude picture of M. F. Hussain have got into controversies. Some of the galleries featuring his paintings have being vandalized. The artist says it's his way of protesting against what he feels bad about. Pranava started the "Tuchchart" style with a group of Delhi artists, and his first Tuchchart show was done in Delhi in 2007. He holds an MBA and a MBBS degree.

 

Prakash was born in Patna, Bihar on 10 February 1979. He completed MBA and MBBS from Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad and Nalanda Medical College in Patna respectively. Later he pursued his career as an artist, but got in a series of controversies because of the nature of work he portrays. Your Turn painting which depicted Indian painter M.F. Husain in the nude and Goddess of Fifteen Minutes of fame which depicted Arundhati Roy, Osama Bin Laden, and Chairman Mao Zedong in the nude created a lot of controversies in the artistic world.

 

His attempt to showcase Husssain’s painting was rejected by several galleries and was finally showed in AIFACS gallery in New Delhi. Following the controversies of Goddess of Fifteen Minutes of fame, when Lalit Kala Academy rejected to show his work, a group of artists protested by burning a paint brush. They even insisted that they won’t paint again if the decision is not reverted. He is a recipient of Radha Mohan Award in year 2013.
