Prakash Javadekar Biography

Prakash Javadekar is a prominent leader of Bharatiya Janata Party and currently serves as a Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha. He is the Minister of State Information & Broadcasting and Minister of State (Independent Charge). He has been given the portfolio of Communications and information technology, law and justice in the 16 Lok sabha sworn on 26^th May 2014. He is the official spokesperson of the BJP and also serves as the president of Global Legislators Organisation for Balanced Environment. He is also a committee member of Press Council of India, Public Accounts Committee and a few more.

He was born in Pune in 1951 to Keshav Krishna Javadekar and Ranjani Javadekar. His father was a senior leader of Hindu Maha Sabha and has also served as its president. He was also a noted journalist. His mother was one of the first educated ladies of the town. Prakash completed graduation from Pune and since his college days, he has been active in student’s union and was the member of ABVP. He was active in student’s movement during Emergency Period, imposed by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He was arrested during emergency for leading a Satyagraha in Pune. Though he was suffering from some heart ailments during that time, police didn’t allow him to go or allow conducting surgery. He had to face a lot of difficulties in jail due to his ill health. Later the political activists went on fasting and surgery was conducted.

After studies he entered banking job. He has been a bank employee for 10 years since 1971. He was elected a Senate Member of Pune University for 12 years. National Secretary & General Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha in 1980’s and during this time, he became a full time worker of BJp resigning his banking job.
