Pitcheswara Rao Atluri Biography

Pitcheswara Rao Atluri was a prominent writer in the Telugu language who lived during the period, 12 April 1925 – 26 September 1966. Tripuraneni Ramaswamy, the great Telugu poet and social reformer was his father-in-law. Thus he is related to great social reformer Tripuraneni Gopichand, and actor Sai Chand, as brother-in-law and uncle respectively. As a writer some of his published books include – Jeevachhavaalu, Nethuru kadha, Chiranjeevulu, Gadavani Ninna, Korina varam, August 15na, Verrikaadu Vedaantham, Donkala vankala Manasulu, Sastry, Sabadham, Kadhakudu, Vimukti, Gadachina dinnalu, Brathakadam Theliyanivaadu and Oka Anubhavam.

 

Pitcheswara Rao Atluri hailed from a small village of Choutapalli in Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh. He was born on 12 April 1925. Later the family moved to Pulaparru village where they got settled, and Atluri continued his studies. He completed Hindi 'Visharada' exams with first rank, and completed his intermediate at Hindu College. He joined Indian Navy in 1945. However he resigned from service in 1953. He married Chouda Rani, the youngest daughter of Tripuraneni Ramaswamy. She was also a noted writer, publisher and the first woman to run an exclusively Telugu language bookstore in Tamil Nadu. Chouda Rani’s brother Tripuraneni Gopichand has left his own mark on the Telugu literature, while her nephew Sai Chand is a noted film actor.

 

After returning from Indian Navy, Pitcheswara Rao Atluri started his career as a journalist and publisher, and he got active in the field of writing. He was associated with Telugu newspaper, Vishalandhra during his early career as journalist. In 1962, he moved to Chennai and worked as a screenwriter for a while. Just before he turned a full-fledged screenwriter he passed away in 1966 following a heart attack.
