Pa. Raghavan Biography

Pa. Raghavan is a noted writer, journalist and editor of Tamil language. His celebrated works - Dollar Desam and Nilamellam Raththam are considered to be the milestones in Tamil non-fiction writing. His political histories have earned him a space among the most noted non-fiction writers of Tamil in the contemporary and modern period. He has also published collections of essays, children’s stories and short stories. Alagilaa Vilayaattu, Alai Urangum kadal, Rendu, Puviyiloridam, Mellinam and Thoonilum Iruppaan are among his noted novels. He is a recipient of ‘Bharathiya Basha Parishad Award’ in 2004. He is an editor by profession and is currently associated with New Horizon Media Private Limited.

Raghavan was born in Adyar, Chennai. His father was a government employee and most of his childhood days were spent in different parts of Chengalpet District. Later the family shifted to Chennai where he completed his school and college education. He took diploma in Mechanical Engineering, yet he chose writing as his professional career. He started his journalist career as a sub-editor in Amudhasurabi Monthly Magazine. In 1992 he became the Assistant Editor weekly magazine Kalki and worked under it for long 8 years till he joined Kumudam in the year 2000 as Assistant Editor. He was later appointed as the editor of newly started Kumudam Junction.

In 2003, he left journalism and completely switched on to publishing and writing. He is most popular as a non-fiction writer. He is also associated with movies and television as a dialogue writer. He wrote dialogues for the movies such as 'Thambi Vettothi sundaram' and 'Kanagavel kakka' and television serials like 'Sivasakthi' of SUN TV and 'Kettimelam' of Jaya TV.
