P. Geetha Jeevan Biography

P. Geetha Jeevan is an Indian politician from Tamil Nadu belonging to Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party (DMK). She is the current MLA of Thoothukudi constituency in the 15th Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. She is the daughter of prominent Tamil Nadu politician, N. Periasamy. In 2006 Karunanidhi ministry, she was inducted to cabinet and given the portfolio, Animal Husbandry. In 2008 reshuffle, she was given the portfolio Social Welfare. In the 2011 state elections, Geetha was defeated by S. T. Chellapandian of the AIADMK party by 27000 votes. But she got elected from the constituency defeating the sitting MLA Chellapandian in 2016 state assembly elections. She won by a majority of around 2000 votes.

P. Geetha Jeevan Nadar was born in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, on 6 May 1970. She was born into a family with strong political background, and she too joined the same field. Her father N. Periasamy was an Indian politician and a former Member of the Legislative Assembly who won 1989 and 1996 elections from Tuticorin constituency. Geetha followed her father into politics, and both represented DMK. Her father died most recently in 2017. She married Jeevan Jacob Rajendran on 7 September 1990, and the couple has two children.

She was quite active in politics in since 1990s. In her 20s, she was a member and chairperson of Tutucorin district panchayat between 1996 and 2006. She joined state assembly for the first time in 2006 defeating Danielraj from ADMK by 15000 votes. Since then she is quite active in state level politics. She was inducted to cabinet and she represented Animal Husbandry followed by Social Welfare. She got defeated in 2011 elections, and she bounced back in 2016.
