P. C. Sorcar Biography 
P. C. Sorcar was a famous Indian magician and inspiration to many artists in the future generations. He was known worldwide during 1950’s and 1960’s and has performed live in many concerts as well as on television. Sorcar died of a heart attack at the age of 58 in Ashaikawa, Japan on January 6, 1971 on one such performance. His Indrajal had lot of fan followers and still now, he is regarded as one among the most talented Indian magicians. In 2010, a postal stamp was issued by postal department of India to honour Sorcar.
In 1964, Indian government honoured him with Padma Shri for his contributions to Indian art. He has received The Sphinx (Oscar of Magic), USA in two years - 1946 and 1954. He has also received The Royal Medallion from German Magic Circle. P. C. Sorcar Junior is the second son of this legendary Indian magician. Indian American artist and engineer, Manick Sorcar is his first son. Sorcar was married to Basanti Devi.
Sorcar was born on 23 February 1913 in Bengal. He was born in Ashekpur, Tangail District; now a part of Bangladesh. He learnt first lessons of magic from magician Ganapati Chakraborty. His school education was completed at Shibnath High School. Sorcar gained popularity in the middle 1930’s and his career peak reached during 1950’s and 1960’s. He is one among the earliest Indian magicians who performed in foreign countries and earned many international acclamations. "When asleep I breathe Magic; when awake I work Magic," – that was his passion to this art which presented another magic world to its enthusiasts. The Rope Trick, the Flying Carpet and the X-Ray Eyes were his outstanding performances. It was Sorcar who popularized Indian magic known by the name, Indrajal worldwide.
