Neelalohithadasan Nadar Biography

Neelalohithadasan Nadar is a politician and former minister from the state of Kerala. He is also known as a social worker from Vizhinjam, Kovalam. At present his wife Jameela Prakasam, a politician from Janata Dal (Secular) party serves as the Member of Kerala state legislative assembly from Kovalam constituency. Nadar has been one of the senior influential leaders of this community and has served as minister of various departments throughout his career. He has been associated with different political parties and currently he is active in Janata Dal. He has served as Sports and Youth Minster from 1987 to 1991 and Forest and Transportation minister for a couple of years – 1999-2000.

 

He has been accused and convicted for sexual assault against women and such cases have played a significant role in the political fall of his great politician. The forest officer Prakriti Srivastava in 1999 and Chief Electoral Officer of Kerala and IAS officer Nalini Netto in 2000 were the cases registered against him for sexual assault, though he was acquitted in 2008. He was pronounced guilty by the magisterial court of Kozhikode in 2004 and was sentenced to one year jail on sexual assault charges.

 

Dr. A. Neelalohithadasan Nadar, senior Janatha Dal leader, was born as the son of K. P. Appi Nadar and A. Kunjulekshmy on 28th August 1947. He completed LLB and also holds a doctorate in Hindi. He joined Indian National Congress during his college days in 1964. Later he became KSU District Secretary in 1967 and its president in 1969. He also served as Chairman, Kerala University Union in 1972. During emergency period, he left congress and formed Congress for Democracy and became its State President. CFD later merged with Janatha Dal and he became Parliamentary Party Leader and State Chairman of DSP.

 

Nadar became elected to KLA for the first time in 1977 from Kovalam constituency, followed by 1987, 1996 and 2001 from the same constituency. He is the founder Chairman of “Kamaraj Foundation of India“ founded in 1976 and has also been associated with a few magazines as a publisher. For the last time, he contested for MP seat from Thiruvananthapuram, opposite Shashi Tharoor in 2009.
