Naqsh Lyallpuri is a famous Urdu and Hindi poet, who has penned lyrics for numerous classic Bollywood hits. ‘Maana Tere Nazar Mein’ – Aahista Aahista, ‘Main To Har Mod Par Tujhko Doonga Sada’ – Chetana, Mujhe Pyar Tumse Nahi – Gharonda, Rasme Ulfat Ko Nibhaye – Dil Ki Rahein, Na Jane Kya Hu – Dard and Ulfat Mein Zamane Ki of Call Girl, Mujhe Pyar Tumse Nahin Hain – Kharonda, Tumhe Delhti Hoon To Lagta Hai Aise – Tumhare Liye, Yeh Mulaqat Ik Bahana Hai of Khandan, Chandni Raat Mein Ik Baar Tujhe Dekha Hai, and "Chitthiye" of Henna are some of his memorable songs.

Agar Teri Ankhon Se Ankhen Mila Doon of 1952 movie Jugnu was his debut song. Yet it took long 2 decades in the industry to gain attention and fame. It was the number - Main To Har Mod Par Tujhko Doonga Sada of 1970 movie Chetana which gave him the first big break. 1950s to early 1970s were fully dominated by the glowing stars - Shailendra, Hasrat Jaipuri, Majrooh Sultanpuri, Kaifi Azmi and many more names. Since 1970s, for the next two decades or so, he gave several memorable songs to Bollywood.

In the 1980s when high demand was for peppy numbers, the writer was not willing to do compromises with his writing skills and slowly moved to television. He started writing title tracks for serials and was quite active in this sector for many years. Yet in the mid-2000s, he made a brief comeback for “Taj Mahal - An Eternal Love Story” (2005) and “Yaatra” (2006) for his colleagues Naushad and Khayyam respectively who composed its songs.

Naqsh Lyallpuri was born in Lyallpur, Punjab. His real name is Jaswant Rai Sharma. He was interested in Urdu literature since younger days and started writing at a younger age. Once, during a vacation his teacher borrowed his books to read his poems written on it, which was a good encouragement to him. Since then he took writing seriously. He moved to Mumbai after partition and worked with Department of Post and Telegraph. But he quit the job to join film industry as a lyricist. Though started in 1951 under Jagdish Sethi, it took almost 20 years for his first big break through Chetana. Since then, there was no turning back!
