Nabam Tuki Biography

Nabam Tuki is an influential Indian politician who has served as the chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh. He belongs to Indian National Congress and served as 8th CM of Arunachal Pradesh during 1 November 2011 – 26 January 2016, after toppling Jarbom Gamlin, after his brief team as CM. Nabam Tuki remained in power for more than four and a half years, and he resigned as the Chief Minister on 16 July 2016, hours before the Arunanchal Pradesh Assembly floor test. After a political crisis in 2016, the President's Rule was imposed for a brief period of 24 days before Kalikho Pul belonging to People's Party of Arunachal took over the power.

Nabam Tuki was born on 7 July 1964 in Ompuli, Sagalee sub-division, Papum Pare district. He has been associated with students’ politics since early 1980s during his academic years. He served as Arunachal Pradesh’s National Students' Union of India president during 1983-1986. He also served as Chairman of North East NSUI Coordination Committee from 1984 to 1986. From there on, he moved upwards, serving many important positions within regional politics.

He served as the Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress President during 1988 - 1995. He contested state assembly elections for the first time in 1995, and got elected as MLA from Sagalee constituency. He was inducted to the cabinet of Gegong Apang, and given the position of deputy minister of agriculture. In 1999 state assembly elections he retained the same seat and this time, he was given environment and forest portfolios.

He continued his success streak and got elected to state assembly in 2004 and 2009 elections too. He served as the PWD and urban Development minister under the Gegong Apang and Dorjee Khandu ministries, before he became the CM of Arunachal Pradesh on 1 November 2011.
