Mukhtar Ansari Biography

Mukhtar Ansari is an Indian politician from the state of Uttar Pradesh, affiliated to Bahujan Samaj Party. He is an elected MLA from Mau constituency a record five times. He is also known to be a notorious, and rampaging gangster who has been jailed several times, has numerous criminal cases pending against him. He was the prime accused in the Krishnanand Rai murder case and was jailed in 2006. In 2019 CBI Court has cleared Ansari along with all other accused for this murder case. Mukhtar Ansari and his brother Afzal joined the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in 2007, and since then Ansari family is fully associated with the party.

 

He belongs to a political family, with many members belonging to Bahujan Samaj Party. Most influential names are his brothers - Afzal Ansari & Sibakatullah Ansari, his sons - Abbas Ansari and Umar Ansari, all associated with Bahujan Samaj Party while his paternal grandfather Mukhtar Ahmed Ansari was an Indian nationalist and political leader, associated with Indian National Congress and Muslim League. Mohammad Hamid Ansari - retired Indian Foreign Service officer and 12th Vice President of India is his paternal uncle, Mukhtar Ahmed Ansari’s nephew. His brother Afzal Ansari currently serves as a parliamentarian representing Ghazipur constituency.

 

While his grandfather Mukhtar Ahmed Ansari was a politician associated with Indian National Congress and Muslim League (but stayed in India after partition), his father Subhanullah Ansari was chairman of Nagar Palika Parishad, Mohammadabad. Later Ansari brothers became prominent figures of Bahujan Samaj Party, within the state politics. Now the fourth generation is also into politics, with his sons - Abbas Ansari and Umar Ansari being the youngster politics belonging to regional politics, who carry the family tradition of politics. His maternal grandfather Brigadier Mohammad Usman was an army officer. Shaukatullah Shah Ansari, an Indian politician and diplomat and Faridul Haq Ansari, politician and parliamentarian are other foremost members of Ansari family.

 

Mukhtar Ansari was born on 30 June 1963 into a family with strong political background. He was born in Yusufpur, Uttar Pradesh. By the early 1990s, Mukhtar Ansari was well known for his criminal activities. Yet he managed to enter politics in 1995 and became an MLA the following year. Brijesh Singh was his arch rival for many years, and both collided several times resulting in violence and killings. In 2007 he along with Afzal joined BSP. The two brothers were expelled by BSP in 2010, because of criminal activities. It was later revealed that Mukhtar was living a luxurious life in jail; he was the prime accused of Krishnanand Rai murder case.

 

Three Ansari brothers (Mukhtar, Afzal and Sibkatillah) formed their own political party called the Quami Ekta Dal in 2010. Ansari rejoined the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), before the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Legislative elections and won state assembly elections from the Mau assembly seat. In 2002 and 2007 he became an MLA as an independent candidate, while in 2012 successfully contested state assembly elections, representing Quami Ekta Dal.
