Manglesh Dabral Biography

Manglesh Dabral is an Indian writer of Hindi language, who writes poetry. Apart from India, his poetry works are quite popular in the neighbouring country Pakistan, like great Indian writers, Vikram Seth and Mahasweta Devi. He has published five collections of poetry, two collections of prose and a travel diary named Ek Bar Iowa. Pahar Par Lalten, Ghar Ka Rasta, Ham Jo Dekhte Hain, Awaz Bhi Ek Jagah Hai and Naye Yug Men Shatru are his anthology of poems while Lekhak Ki Roti and Kavi Ka Akelapan are his published prose works. In year 2000 his poetry collection Ham Jo Dekhte Hain received Hindi Sahitya Academy awards. Many of his works have been translated to other languages.

 

Manglesh Dabral was born on 16 May 1948 in present-day Uttarakhand. He belongs to the rural village of Kaphalpani in present-day Tehri Garhwal district. He completed his studies in Dehradun. Later he worked as a journalist in Delhi, for different types of publications including a few magazines. Then he moved to Bhopal where he worked as the Assistant Editor in Purvagrah. As a journalist and editor he has also worked in Allahabad, Lucknow etc, and also National Book Trust as an Editorial Consultant.

 

A well-known contemporary poet of Hindi language, Dabral stands high as a poet who has constantly been exploring the idea of ‘the other’ in Indian socio-political scenario as a third person to understand as well as imitate change in his surroundings. He has also authored books on literary criticism. While at Delhi, Pratipaksh, Hindi Patriot, and Aaspaas were among the journals with which he was associated with, as a journalist.
