Mahim Bora Biography

Mahim Chandra Bora, popularly known as Mahim Bora is an eminent Assamese writer. He received Sahitya Akademi Award in 2001 for his novel Edhani Mahir Hanhi in Assamese language. He was born in Hatbar, Nowgong in 1954. He served as the president of the Assam Sahitya Sabha held in 1989 at Doomdooma. Indian government honoured him with Padma Shri award in 2011 in the field of Literature and Education. He is also a recipient of Assam Valley Literary Award for the year 1998. His works includes poems and short story collection. Anthology of poems – Rangajivya is his major work.

 

He was born in Sonitpur district of Assam. After completing PG in Assamese literature he started his career as a faculty Nowgong College. Then he continued his teaching career till his retirement and currently lives in Nagaon, where he spent his childhood days in its rural areas. His works too describes the rural and cultural face of Assam. Apart from published books, he regularly writes short stories for periodicals too. He is one of Assam’s best known short story writers and also well known for his translations from Assamese to English.

 

Kathanibari Ghat, Bohubhuji Tribhuj, Eai Nadir Sonte, Mai Pippali Aru Puja, Rati Phula Phul and Barayatri are his short story anthologies while Herowa Digantara Maya, Tinir Tini Gol, Chakravat, Much aru Manu and Putala Ghaiz are his short story collections. Chinta Bichitra is a work on criticism. Somdhirir Sowarani is his only verse collection. Mahim Bora is among five personalities of North-east who was awarded with Padma Shri in 2011.
