Mahendra Nath Pandey Biography

Mahendra Nath Pandey is an Indian politician and MP from the state of Uttar Pradesh, affiliated to Bharatiya Janata Party. He served president of the party's Uttar Pradesh unit during 31 August 2017 – 16 July 2019. He currently serves as a parliamentarian in the 17th Lok Sabha headed by Narendra Modi and represents constituency. He has been a Member of Lok Sabha for Chandauli since 2014, and now it’s his second consecutive term as MP. During his previous term, he served as Minister of state Human Resource Development during 26 may 2014 – 31 August 2017.

Mahendra Nath Pandey was born on 15 October 1957 in Pakhapur, Uttar Pradesh. He is married to Pratima Pandey since 1985, and has one daughter. Sudhakar Pandey and Chandrawati Pandey are his parents. He is brilliant in academics. He completed PG in Journalism and Ph.D in Hindi from Banaras Hindu University. He got into active politics during his college days, and was elected president of the student's union of C.M. Anglo Bengali College in 1973. In 1978 he became the general secretary of the student's union of Banaras Hindu University.

During Emergency he was imprisoned, and he had to spend 5 months in jail. In 1978, he joined Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, and slowly became a part of Bharatiya Janata Party. Currently he is one of the prominent leaders of the party from UP. He took part in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. In 1991, he became MLA for the first time and he retained the seat in 1996 state assembly elections too. He served as Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development in Kalyan Singh’s ministry. He later served as Minister of State for Planning, and Minister of State too.
