Madhav Vaze Biography

Madhav Vaze is a theater artist, director and film actor associated with Marathi entertainment industry. Among his Bollywood roles, he is best known for playing Joy Lobo's father in the Hindi blockbuster – 3 Idiots. The character of Joy Lobo was portrayed by Ali Fazal, who played a pivot role in the movie of an aspiring engineer who commits suicide. Madhav is mainly associated with plays as an actor and director, though he occasionally appears on big screen. Shyam in Shyamchi Aai is his best work in a Marathi film, where he played a child artist. Most recently he was seen in Vodafone m-Pesa ad as Babuji, which was a big hit.

 

He was born on 21 October 1939 in Maharashtra. He started his film career as a child artist through the Marathi film, Shyamchi Aai. He played the pivot role of Shyam in this movie, a role which he is still remembered for. The movie won the Golden Lotus Award for Best Film at the National Film Awards in 1954 and was the first film to won Golden Lotus Award. The plot of the movie revolves around a boy Shyam, and his relationship with his mother, and the central character of the boy was played by Vaze.

 

Though he started off with a magic debut on big screen, he preferred to be associated with theater. He also worked as an English lecturer at the Nowrosjee Wadia College in Pune. Theatre was his first love. After the movie 3 Idiots, where Madhav played a cameo role, Aamir Khan expressed his desire to work with this great artist on theatre. As a theatre artist one of his latest works include – Marathi translation of Hamlet, with the lead roles played by Kanak Datye and Neha Mahajan.
