M. P. Prakash Biography

M. P. Prakash was an Indian politician who served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka during 2005-2006. Known for his simplicity and integrity, he was a reputed leader quite popular among the masses. He served as the Member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly for Hadagali during 1983 – 1989 followed by 1994–1999 and 2004–2008. He was also a theatre personality who directed and acted in Kannada plays. He was also an advocate by profession. He passed away on February 9, 2011 in Bangalore at the age of 71. He was suffering from cancer. He was associated with Janata Dal and its affiliations.

 

Matada Patil Prakash was born on 11 July 1940 at Vallabhapura in Hagari Bommanahalli taluk, Bellary District of present Karnataka. He completed his law studies and pursued his career as an advocate before he turned active in politics. A 4-time MLA in the state assembly of Karnataka, he also served as Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka during his last term, though for a brief period.

 

Prakash entered politics as an active member of Janata party in the early 1980s. He was associated with the party during 1983–1988, after which he had 11-year association with Janata Dal. He was a member of Janata Dal (United) during 1999-2004 and won state assembly elections as a candidate of Janata Dal (Secular) in 2004. He was associated with the party till 2008.

 

He represented Hadagali during his first elections in 1983 and got re-elected thrice. Prakash always kept service before self and carved out a place for himself in public life. He was a thinker, committed deeply to pro-people ideologies. He was a statesman and leader who strived for the welfare of all sections of the society.
