M. B. Patil Biography

M. B. Patil is a politician from Karnataka belonging to Indian National Congress. He formerly served as Minister for Water Resources in the Government of Karnataka under Siddaramaiah’s ministry. He is currently a Member of 15th Karnataka Legislative Assembly since 19 May 2018 and serving his 5th term as MLA. He has been elected to Lok Sabha as well. He is an engineering graduate who later joined politics. He is the current President of BLDEA Autonomous University, Vijayapur, which runs a group of educational institutions including professional colleges and schools.

 

Mallanagouda Basanagouda Patil was born on 7 October 1964 in Vijayapur, Karnataka. He did his school and college studies from his hometown Vijayapur, where he grew up. He took Civil Engineering from BLDEA's Vachana Pitamaha P. G. Halakatti College of Engineering, Vijayapur. He served as the General Secretary of BLDEA institution for 15 years since 1995, and later became its president. Currently he is holding this power. He joined politics in the early 1990s after the demise of his father.

 

Patil remains a very popular Congress leader in regional politics, and has been elected to legislative assembly 5 times since 1991. He became the irrigation minister when Congress formed government in 2013 under the leadership of Siddaramaiah. He remains one of the top contenders for the post of Chief Minister of Karnataka in future. He has even asserted that after Siddaramaiah’s second term as CM, it would be his turn next. He is a follower of Lingayatism and regularly practises Yoga. He is also attracted to Buddhism, Basava Philosophy and those ideologies. He is married to Asha Patil and has two sons.
