Krushna Chandra Kar Biography

Krushna Chandra Kar was a well-known poet and literary critic associated with Odia literature. He was best known for children's literature. He also authored English books. He received the Odisha Sahitya Academy Felicitation in the year 1971-72, for his contributions to Odia literature. "The Maharaja : As I Knew Him" is his noted English work. "Ramayana" and "Shakuntala" are among his noted books, while "Rutu Samhara" and "Hansa Dutam" are his noted poetry collections. He authored popular children’s works, "Pari Raija", "Kuhuka Raija", "Panchatantra", and "Adi Jugara Galpa Mala".

Krushna Chandra Kar was born on 1907 in Mula Basant, Cuttack, Odisha. Apart from authoring many books, he also edited a few books, and also compiled a few in the1960s. Krushna Chandra Kar is definitely remembered for the books he contributed towards Children’s literature. He also wrote children stories in Amar Chitra Katha, children’s story book. He wrote long stories such as Bharata gouraba, Panchatantra galpa, Purana prabha and Nana desara upakatha in two or three parts in Amar Chitra Katha. Karmabira gourishankar, Sejugara chatra, Sudhala deba, Mukunda deba, Bhaktakabi madhusudana, Kabibara radhanatha, Samanta Chandra sekhara, Purushotam deba, Kulabrudha madhusudhana, Utkalamani gopabandhu etc are other stories he wrote for Amar Chitra Katha.

He also wrote essays for kids, and also series such as Kuhuka Raija, Parimahala, Suna Raija etc. His autobiography work is widely regarded as one among the best works and distinguished biographies written in the same period, and counted among the best authored by Odia literals of 20^th century. He also authored many Hindu mythological works like epics in Odia language such as Mahabharata katha, Upanishada Katha, Purana Prabha, Sadhana and Sishi etc, very often serialized in magazines.
