Krishna Hutheesing Biography

Krishna Hutheesing was an integral part of the prestigious political family – Nehru Family. She was the daughter of prominent congress leader Motilal Nehru and the youngest sister of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and noted diplomat and politician, Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit. She documented her life along with the prominent members of her family, Jawaharlal Nehru and her niece Indira Gandhi. She was married to Raja Hutheesing who authored a few books - The Great Peace: An Asian's Candid Report on Red China (1953), Window on China (1953), and Tibet fights for freedom : the story of the March 1959 uprising (1960).

 

Krishna Nehru is her maiden name. She was born in Mirganj, Allahabad to Motilal Nehru and Swarup Rani. She was married to Raja Hutheesing of the prominent Hutheesing family who built Hutheesing Jain Temple at Ahmedabad. The couple had two children - Harsha Hutheesing and Ajit Hutheesing. Ajit is the Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of International Capital Partners Inc. The couple has been jailed for participating in Indian freedom struggle movement. Raja Hutheesing, who later became anti-Nehru, supported the formation of the conservative political party known as the Swatantra Party.

 

Rajiv Gandhi, former Indian prime minister and an integral member of Nehru-Gandhi family was born in the household of the Hutheesings, Mumbai. Krishna is best known for her contributions in documenting the life of two former prime ministers of India – Nehru and Indira. We Nehrus, With No Regrets and Nehru's Letters to His Sister and Dear to Behold are her noted published works. She passed away in 1967.
