Krishna Byre Gowda Biography

Krishna Byre Gowda is an influential politician from the south Indian state of Karnataka. A member of Indian National Congress, he is the current Minister of Rural Development, Law and Parliamentary Affairs in the cabinet of H D Kumaraswamy. He currently represents Byatarayanapura Constituency as a legislature since 2008. He assumed office as a cabinet minister of Karnataka on 8 June 2018. Krishna has served some of the prominent positions within state politics of Congress party in the recent past. He currently holds the office of General Secretary of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, since 2012. He was the President of the Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress during 2007 – 2011.

 

Krishna Byre Gowda was born in Bangalore, Karnataka in the year 1973 into a political family. C. Byre Gowda and Savithramma are his parents. His father C. Byre Gowda served as MLA for 5 consective terms and also a cabinet minister. After completing his graduation in Business Management Krishna took Master’s from the School of International Service, Washington, D. C in 1999. He worked as a project associate at Development Alternatives Inc at Washington, D. C soon after completing his Master’s course in US. Krishna worked on several projects before he moved back to India. He is fully active in politics since 2003, and has more than 15 years of experience in this field.

 

His father C. Byre Gowda was a Janata Dal leader, and Krishna joined active politics in 2003 soon after the death of his father to contest in a by-election. A 5-term legislature, his father served as agriculture minister of Karnataka in the late 1990s. He tasted success in the by-election thus filling the seat of his father, and since then he has been fully active in politics. He left the Janata Dal political party to join the Indian National Congress in 2004.
