Krishan Mohan Biography

Krishan Mohan was an Urdu poet who lived in India during November 28, 1922 – 2004. He was known for Ghazals and Nazms, and worked in government sector. He worked in Indian Revenue Service department as an Income Tax Officer. He worked as sub-editor and assistant editor of All India Radio's publication Aawaaz at Lucknow and Delhi after Partition, and also owned a career as a journalist later.

 

Krishan Mohan was born as Krishan lal on November 28, 1922 in Sialkot, British India. His birth place belongs to Punjab, Pakistan. His father, Ganpat Rai Bhatia, was an advocate who practised in Meerat after partition. He was also an Urdu poet. After partition of British India his family moved to Karnal. Before that he completed his education at Lahore. He took Master’s in English literature, before he moved to Independent India at the age of 25. He worked as a welfare officer soon after shifting to India, on a temporary basis.

 

He began his career as a journalist and worked with All India Radio later. He was associated with AIR’s publication Aawaaz, and worked as a sub-editor during his early days. He also worked with Press Information Bureau, before he joined the permanent government job in Indian Revenue department. He was one among the stalwarts in the post-independent era of 20th century who gave significant contributions to Urdu poetry. He was regular in his Kavi sammelans (literary conferences) too, where he recited his poems.

 

Some of his well-known Urdu poetry works include - Shabnam shabnam, Dil e Naadaan, Tamaashaaii, Ghazaal, Konpal konpal, Shirazah e mizgaan, Nigaah e naaz, Aahang e watan, Bairaagii bhanwaraa etc. Many of his ghazals are thoughtful and thought-provoking, but set in traditional style. He died in Delhi in 2004 aged 82.
