Kovid Gupta Biography

Kovid Gupta is an Indian writer who writes screenplays for movies and TV shows. He is also an American author, screenwriter, filmmaker, and social activist. As a TV script writer, he is best known for Balika Vadhu which he co-scripted aside many writers including Gajra Kottary. His non-fiction works, Kingdom of The Soap Queen: The Story of Balaji Telefilms and Redrawing India: The Teach for India Story make him a very popular young writer of present times. He has also done a few fictional works, apart from TV screenplays. Forbes included Gupta on the one of their 2017 Forbes 30 under 30 lists. He is also a recipient of Glorious India Award - Rich and Famous NRIs of America 2017.

This American author was born in the year 1988 in Houston, Texas. He was born to immigrant parents in USA. Since young he was fascinated towards Bollywood movies, and watched them a lot. He completed his graduation from University of Texas at Austin, and then MBA from Cornell University. He turned a full-fledged writer, publishing his fiction and non-fiction books, and also writing episodes for soaps and social dramas on Hindi television. He also worked as an assistant director for Salman Khan starrer, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.

He has closely worked with Ekta Kapoor and Balaji Telefilms, and the book Kingdom of The Soap Queen: The Story of Balaji Telefilms is a non-fictional account of the contributions of Kapoor and the production house to Indian soap era of present times. He co-scripted the popular shows - Balika Vadhu, Bade Acche Lagte Hain, Hamaar Sautan Hamaar Saheli, Chhan Chhan, Bahu Hamari Rajni Kant, Krishnadasi and Devanshi.
