Kimmane Rathnakar Biography

Kimmane Rathnakar is an Indian politician from the state of Karnataka who has formerly served as a member of Karnataka legislative assembly and state minister too. He belongs to Indian National Congress. He represented Thirthahalli constituency for two terms - 4 June 2008 – 16 May 2018. He is the former Minister for Primary and Secondary education. He is an advocate by profession, who is active in politics as well.

 

Kimmane Rathnakar hails from Thirthahalli, Karnataka. He grew up in his hometown where he did his schooling and later he completed his graduation and law studies also. After completing his LLB studies, he began his professional career as an advocate. He got into active politics in the 2000s, and got elected to state legislative assembly for the first time in 2008. He retained his seat at Thirthahalli in the next state assembly elections too, and became the education minister.

 

On September 17, 2013, an unexpected incident in which he and his team saved a family of 6 from drowning into Beguvalli Lake made him a national hero. He was returning to Bangalore from his hometown, when he spotted a car sinking with its occupants crying for help. Without thinking for a second, Kimmane, his gunman Halswamy, driver Chandrashekar and his escort vehicle driver Krishnamurthy jumped into the water immediately for rescue. The driver opened the rear door, pulled out three children and brought them safe to shore. All the 6 occupants were survived. The minister called the doctor, arranged breakfast and free medicine for them and also gave Uday Kumar – the eldest member of the family, his clothes, before leaving for Bangalore. He and his team received praises from all corners for changing the life of a family.
