Killi Krupa Rani Biography

Killi Krupa Rani is an Indian politician and former parliamentarian from Andhra Pradesh. She belongs to Indian National Congress. She successfully contested 2009 Lok Sabha elections from Srikakulam constituency, and defeated senior Telugu Desam leader Kinjarapu Yerran Naidu, prominent leader of the party, who served as MLA, MP and also a cabinet minister in UDF ministry in the second half of 1990s. She is also a social worker, best known as the Convener of the Dr. Rammohan Rao charitable trust for last 20 years, established by her husband. A member of Manmohan Singh’s cabinet, she served as the Minister of State, Communications and Information Technology.

 

Dr. Killi Krupa Rani was born on 19 November 1965 in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh. Kausalya and Kamayya are her parents. She holds an MBBS degree from Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatanam. She married Dr. Rammohan Rao during her medical studies, and the couple has two children. Her husband is a gynecologist & obstetrician and also a social worker who established the "Dr. Rammohan Rao charitable trust". Killi Krupa serves as the Convener of the trust for last 20 years.

 

Killi Krupa Rani earned nationwide attention when she got elected to Lok Sabha in 2014 in BJP dominated election results. A four-time winner of Lok Sabha elections in the consecutive terms, Kinjarapu Yerran Naidu was defeated for the first time in 2009, when Killi Krupa Rani was fielded as Congress candidate in Srikakulam. She was inducted into the union ministry on 28 Oct 2012. However after Naidu’s death in 2012, his son Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu retained the seat in 2014 Lok Sabha elections representing Telugu Desam party.
