Karti Chidambaram Biography

Karti Chidambaram is an Indian politician and businessman from the state of Tamil Nadu, affiliated to Indian National Congress. He currently serves as a parliamentarian in the 17th Lok Sabha headed by Narendra Modi and represents Sivaganga constituency of Tamil Nadu. It is his first term as parliamentarian. He is the son of P. Chidambaram, Indian politician and former attorney who currently serves as Member of Parliament. In 2015-2016 many of national newspapers uncovered his hidden ownership of a sprawling international network of companies. However Karti refuted all these allegations.

Karti Chidambaram belongs to a family with strong political background. His father P. Chidambaram is a prominent figure of national politics, associated with Indian National Congress. He was born in 1971 in Chennai as the son of P. Chidambaram and Nalini Chidambaram. He is married to Srinidhi Karti Chidambaram and has one child. Karti took BBA from McCombs School of Business at University of Texas at Austin in 1993 and Bachelor of Laws from Wolfson College at University of Cambridge in 1995. Soon after graduation, he supported his father when he formed a new party Congress Jananayaka Peravai, breaking away from Congress. He served as his father’s election manager at Sivaganga.

Karti Chidambaram’s first attempt to join parliament in 2014 was not full-filled. He lost elections from Sivaganga as Congress candidate. However he retained the same seat in 2019 general elections and joined parliament for the first time. He defeated H. Raja of BJP and scored 52.2% of total votes polled. Soon after he turned MP, his father was arrested and jailed in INX media case. The news received nationwide attention.
