Kanippayyur Shankaran Namboodiripad Biography 
Kanippayyur Shankaran Namboodiripad was a Nambudiri Brahmin known for his contributions towards Indian Vasthu Shastra. He lived during the period, 1891-1981. He was a well-known astrologer and Vasthu expert of south India, and renovation of many temples across south India were done after seeking his opinion. He was also the Royal Architect for the three royal families of Travancore, Cochin and Kozhikode. He has also authored more than a hundred books based on Vasthu shastra or Indian traditional architecture, Ayurveda, history, astrology and astronomy. He is credited to rejuvenating Vaastu Shastra and popularizing it further. A research Library has been established in his name by his descendants.
Kanippayyur Shankaran Namboodiripad was born into a Nambudiri Brahmin family of Kerala. Many of his family members are great scholars, and had deep knowledge in Vasthu Shastra, astrology and Sanskrit scripts. His family was traditionally associated with the profession of architecture and construction of temples. His father Kanippayyur Subramanian Namboothiripad was a great scholar in Vasthu Shastra. His mother’s name is Kanippayyur Kali Antharjanam, and he was born as their 9th child. He had primary education and study of basics of Vedas at his home. Later he joined Vedic School at Thrissur to take advanced studies in Rig Veda. He became a brilliant scholar of Sthapathya Veda and Astrology.
After studies, he continued with his family tradition of giving ‘vasthu shastra’ advices in temple constructions, and also astrology. He also published a few books related to his field and Kerala history. Ente Smaranakal, Nayanmaarude Poorvacharithram, Vaidyaratnam Aushadanikhandu, Aryanmaarude Kudiyettam etc. Kannippayur Narayanan Namboothiripad is the representative of his family in present times, and widely regarded as a prominent figure of Kerala astrology and vasthu sastra.
