Kanety Krishna Menon Biography

Kanety Krishna Menon was a popular writer associated with Telugu language. He published 80 short stories and 6 novels, and earned success as a story teller. Krathuvu is one among his celebrated works and this novel was widely received by readers. He was an active member of Ranjani, a literary association until his retirement in 1997. He published his first story while studying in class 12 in a local magazine, and continued with writing since then. During his last two years he was bedridden and suffering from Parkinson's disease. After the disease was detected in 2005 he stopped writing. He passed away in 2012.

 

Kanety Krishna Menon was born in 1942 in East Godaveri district of Andhra Pradesh. He was born in Ramarajulanka village. After completing his studies he worked in Accountant General's office in Hyderabad. He held master's degree in Economics from Nagpur University. He started writing at the age of 14 while studying in class 9. One of his school teachers named Kandukuri Ramabhadra Rao encouraged him a lot to continue writing. His first story earned him an award in writing, and he decided to continue writing stories.

 

His first short story was published in "Prajamatha", a Bangalore-based magazine at the age of 17. Since 1974, he regularly published his stories in different magazines. Baki Batukulu was his first novel published, and it got published in the year 1977. In 1979 he published an anthology of poems titled Idi Streaking Kadu. He co-authored Rangula Needa with Yandamuri Veerendranath. He chose themes from the social and economic conditions of the society in which he lived, and many of his works got translated to different Indian languages.
