Kalraj Mishra Biography

Kalraj Mishra is a leading politician belonging to Bharatiya Janata Party. Currently serving as Member of Parliament, he served as the Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in Narendra Modi’s government during 26 May 2014 – 31 August 2017. He got elected from Deoria constituency in Uttar Pradesh in 2014 general elections. President of Uttar Pradesh state unit of the BJP, a member of Rajya Sabha and a MLA from Lucknow East assembly constituency are some of the leading positions held by this prominent political leader till now. He also served Rajya Sabha for three terms - 1978, 2001 and 2006.

He was born on 1 July 1941 in Saidpur of United Provinces, British India. His birth place now belongs to Ghazipur district of UP. He is married to Satyawati Mishra. He holds a Master’s degree from Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith, Varanasi. He became Swyamsewak of RSS during his teens while at school. He became RSS purnkalik pracharak in 1963, and then became the first elected National President of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha.

He got elected to Rajya Sabha for the first time in 1978, and then in 2001 and 2006. He has been a prominent figure in state politics as well. Got elected to UP state assembly, he remained a cabinet minister during 1997-2000, holding the portfolios, Public Works, Medical Education and Tourism. He played a prominent role in the formation of Uttarakhand. He got elected to Vidhan Sabha in 2012 elections as a BJP candidate, and later contested in Lok Sabha elections in 2014. He resigned as MLA to contest the general elections, and became a cabinet minister in newly formed Narendra Modi government.
