Kaizaad Kotwal Biography

Kaizaad Kotwal is a theatre personality best known as a director, playwright and stage actor. He is a seasonal film actor too, who has appeared in a few Bollywood movies since 2012. He played brief roles in Airlift, Raees, Phantom, and Udta Punjab, and also plays a brief role in Rajinikanth starrer multi-language film, 2.0. He has worked on over 200 theatre productions and films. As a playwright, producer and play director, one among his best works is The Vagina Monologues, originally staged in 2003, and staged successfully for many years. He co-owns a production company called Poor-Box Productions, originally started in 1996. He is also a professor who taught at Ohio University for about 20 years.

 

Kaizaad Kotwal hails from Mumbai, Maharashtra. His mother’s name is Mahabanoo Mody-Kotwal, who currently serves as the co-owner of Poor-Box Productions, started by Kaizaad. Though he is associated with movies, television shows and plays, his first love is obviously, theater. He is also known for films like “Simpatico”, “Traffic”, “Heroine” and “Roy”, etc. A veteran artist associated with Indian theater, he has taught theatre, media studies and films at the prestigious Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. He won the Grffin Society Award for Best Professor in 2008 & 2007.

 

Associated with art of different forms, he doesn’t want to become a prisoner of any particular art form or medium. He has done 13 episodes of “Kota Toppers” in 2015 for Bindaas, where he played professor Vardhan. Though he has been offered television roles before also, he rejected them always. He is mostly associated with theatre, and loves this art form. Yet he is sad that this art form is slowly diminishing.
