K. Surendran Biography

K. Surendran is an Indian politician from Kerala, belonging to Bharatiya Janata Party. He hails from Ulliyeri, a small village in Kozhikode district in the state of Kerala. Currently he is one of the six general secretaries of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Kerala. In 2009 K. Surendran was a Lok Sabha candidate for Kasaragod in the national elections, but couldn’t succeed.

K. Surendran was born in Kozhikode to Kunhiraman and Kalyani in the year 1970. Ulliyeri is his hometown. He graduated in Chemistry from Zamorin's Guruvayurappan College, Kozhikode. Since young he participated in many competitions and won many national and international competitions since the age of 11. He started his active political career as a student leader associated with youth wing, ABVP during his college days. He rose to prominence within Bharatiya Janata party over the years in regional politics and currently serves as one among the general secretaries.

As an administrator, he has held many distinctive positions such as Director North Malabar District Co-operative Marketing Society, President, Desa Seva Samskarika Kendram, Founder Director Board member National Yuva co-operative Society and Advisory Board member Nehru Yuva Kendra earlier. Originally from Kozhikode, he had moved to Kasaragod where he flourished as a prominent young political figure of Kerala. In fact he learnt Tulu and Kannada languages to better communicate with the local people, after he settled in Kasaragod.

In the late 2000s, he was elected as the state president of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, and has led many protests and agitations against then ruling Communist government of Achuthanandan. During the infamous 2013 Kerala solar panel scam, he demanded the release of the telephone call records of then Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan. He also alleged that Chief Minister Oommen Chandy was trying to protect his former staff members.
