K. K. Viswanathan Biography 
Kambanthodath Kunhan Vishwanatham or Kambanthodath Vishwanatham, simply known as K. K. Viswanathan was a politician, lawyer and the governor of the state of Gujarat during the period - 4 April 1973 – 13 August 1978. He was originally a Malayali born in Mattancheri, Kochi who has served as a member of Cochin Legislative Council representing Praja Mandal, following the Indian independence, before the formation of states. He was fully involved with Kerala state politics before he was appointed as Governor of Gujarat. He was associated with Indian National Congress. Viswanathan passed away in August 1992.
Vishwanathan was born in Mattancheri on November 4, 1914. His education was done at St. Thomas College Thrissur, followed by Maharaja's College, Earnakulam and Law College, Thiruvananthapuram before he moved to Chennai to complete LLB. After studies he returned to Kochi where he started practising law. In those days he got involved with trade unions, which marked his active participation to politics. He was one of the co-founders of Cochin Thuramukha Thozhilali Union.
He was also associated with Cochin Praja Mandal, a constituent of the All India State People's Conference and got elected to Cochin Legislative Council in 1948. This party was affiliated to Indian national Congress. He became a Member of the integrated State Assembly in 1949 though he resigned from State Assembly the following year. He got elected to Kerala’s first state assembly in 1957 soon after the formation of Kerala state on November 1st, 1956.
During the re-elections conducted in 1959, he got elected to state assembly for the second time. He also edited a Malayalam Weekly ‘The Republic’. After an eventful public life in Kerala, he was appointed as the governor of the state of Gujarat in 1973. He passed away on 17 August 1992.
