Jyothi Vijayakumar Biography

Jyothi Vijayakumar is an advocate and orator by profession. She came to limelight during 2019 general elections when she became the official translator of Congress leaders from English to Malayalam language. She shared stage space with prominent Congress leaders like Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, when she acted as their translator.

Her father D. Vijayakumar is an advocate by profession. Mother Radhika is a housewife.  Her father is a politician, and has contested Lok Sabha elections as UDF candidate. Since young she used to accompany her father to hear public speeches. She completed her graduation from Mar Ivanious College, Thiruvananthapuram. She was quite active in politics during her college days. She earned experience as an orator during her college days, when she delivered political speeches.

Till the age of 21, she has never talked any other language except Malayalam. She completed preliminaries for civil service, and spent a few days in Delhi. But she couldn’t get through the final exams. She marked her professional career as a reporter at Chennai for a publication, and worked for a few years in media industry under different firms. After marriage she moved to Mumbai, where she started her career as an IT professional. Once again she moved to Chennai as a college lecturer.

The idea translations came to her mind in 2011, when she once heard Rahul Gandhi’s speech. Her ambition was well-supported by her family. She requested her father to let her know when Rahul Gandhi needs a translator in Malayalam for his Kerala visits. In 2014 she got her dream opportunity when Rahul Gandhi came to Chengannur for election campaigns. It was only the beginning, and she shot to fame with her powerful and energetic translations during 2019 general elections.
