Jupally Krishna Rao Biography

Jupally Krishna Rao is an Indian politician and Member of Legislative Assembly from the south Indian state of Telangana. He represents Kollapur from TRS in state legislative assembly. He is a cabinet minister of Telangana, who serves as Minister of Panchayat Raj and Rural Development in the first Telangana legislative Assembly. He is also handling Textiles & Sugar portfolio. Rao was earlier associated with Indian national congress, and he joined Telangana Rashtra Samithi on 30 October 2011. He was associated with Telangana movement demanding separate state, and later he rose to prominence as a leader within regional politics.

Jupally Krishna Rao was born on 10 August 1955 in Kollapur, Andhra Pradesh State. Now his birthplace belongs to Telangana. He hails from Pedda Dagada Village in Mahbubnagar district. Rao is married to Sujana and the couple has two sons. Rao started his career as a bank employee, later moved to construction business and finally settled with political career. In the undivided Andhra Pradesh, he remained a prominent figure in regional politics since late 1990s. He got elected to state assembly for the first time in 1999, and he retained the seat in 2004,2009,2012 By-elections & 2014 elections too.

In 2014, he contested for Telangana state assembly, while the rest for Andhra Pradesh state legislative assembly, and he won all these polls. He began his political journey in association with Indian national congress and had a long stand with the party till 2011, before he called it quit. He, along with two more MLAs resigned from power in protest against the delay by the Centre in granting statehood for the Telangana region. He changed the political party as well.
