Jesudasu Seelam Biography

Jesudasu Seelam is a prominent politician and former parliamentarian and cabinet minister from Andhra Pradesh. He represents Indian National Congress. He was a Rajya Sabha member in 2004 representing Andhra Pradesh. He served as Minister of State (Revenue) under the Ministry of Finance in 2013 under Manmohan Singh’s cabinet. He is an IAS officer who later joined politics in late 1990s.

He was born on 13 August 1953 in Pusuluru of Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh. He was born into a Christian family as the son of Abraham Seelam and Annapurnamma Seelam. He got married to Sujatha Seelam in 1984 and the couple has two daughters and one son. He completed his graduation in Chemistry from Andhra Christian College, Guntur. He took Master’s in Chemistry from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. After his studies he started his professional career in teaching field. He was the assistant Professor of Chemistry 1977-1980, followed by  Member of Indian Audit and Accounts Service (IA&AS) during 1981-1983, before he joined Indian Administrative Service. He belonged to Karnataka cadre. He served as an IAS officer during the period 1984-99 before he joined politics.

With early 2000s he became active in politics. He got elected to Rajya Sabha for the first time in 2004 representing Congress ticket. He got re-elected to Rajya Sabha in 2009. He became a cabinet minister in 2013. He served as the Member, Committee on Water Resources from 2004 to 2010. He was the Member, Animal Welfare Board of India from 2004 to 2009. He served in Parliamentary Forum on Population and Public Health May 2007 -May 2009, and has held many elite positions and committee member positions during his tenure as parliamentarian.
